Frequently asked questions

Below you’ll find answers to the questions we get asked about Contact Point

Is Contact Point
CAMHS?

Whilst we work alongside Core CAMHS and other CAMHS services, we are a stand alone service offering advice, and working with you to help you get the support you need.

If we feel that a referral to CAMHS is needed we will do this for you or if there is a service outside of CAMHS we will also help you get this support too.

What are the wait times for help?

Wait times vary dependant on need. We endeavour to keep up to date information on this. Where there is risk identified within the referral we aim to have a conversation about managing immediate risk with the young person and caregiver as soon as possible.

What does triage involve?

A triage involves a 20-30 minute telephone conversation with the child, young person and their caregivers. In this this triage we will ask questions and listen to you, to try to understand the presenting difficulties and help to find the right support.

Will Contact Point share information with caregivers?

Whilst we offer children and young people some level of confidentiality. Where there is any concern around risk, whether to self or others, this will always be shared with caregivers.

What happens after the triage?

Following a telephone triage, either a referral will be made for support to the most appropriate service and/or advice will be given as to where you can contact for advice/support. This will have been agreed during the triage. A letter will then be sent out to you, your GP and whoever made the referral to us,  with this information in and your referral to Contact Point will be closed.
