CAMHS Intensive Home Treatment

Our Intensive Home Treatment service offers intensive community intervention for young people and families for up to 4-12 weeks. We also work closely with services outside of CAMHS that already
support the young person such as schools and social services.

The service offers two treatment pathways:

Pathway 1: Intensive Intervention

For young people who are already receiving a service within Core CAMHS team but where it has been identified that more frequent interventions are needed to complement what is already being offered.

Pathway 2:
Home Treatment

For young people who are at high risk of needing a CAMHS in-patient admission. Home treatment aims to reduce the need for admission and is described as ‘an alternative to admission’.

We know from extensive research that this provides better outcomes for young people.

When an in-patient referral is needed, the service will continue to work with the young person to help reduce the length of admission and support discharge plans.

After receiving a referral to the service one of our team members will meet with the young person and family to work together to identify what their needs are, what interventions would be helpful and
develop a personalised care plan.

Examples of interventions we offer as part of Home Treatment are:

  • Ongoing assessment and formulation of needs
  • Support with daily living skills such as sleep, diet, routine and physical health which we know
    often impacts our mental health
  • Psychoeducation for young people and family members
  • Psychiatry review including reviewing whether medication would be helpful
  • Liaison with the wider system supporting the young person and family
  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) skills to help young people with regulating their emotions. View more below via ‘Some interventions are skills’
