Humber Adult Autism Diagnosis Service (HAADS)

How to access the service

How to access the service

We understand that the idea of requesting a referral or going for an autism assessment can be daunting. We hope the information below will help you understand what to expect.

In order to have an autism assessment, first:

Ask your GP for a referral

Book an appointment with your GP.

Make sure this appointment is about a referral and try to give your GP some examples of difficulties you’ve had in adulthood and childhood with:

  • communication

  • social interaction

  • need for routine

  • sensory difficulties

You will either be accepted or declined, for more information

The GP will send HAADS your referral. This will be looked at by the team. If there is enough information we will accept you on to the waiting list. Please see Waiting Times below:

If you are accepted we will send you a pre-assessment document to fill in (PAD).

This helps us to gather some information about your developmental history, education and employment history, and your life experiences. This is a key document. Please see more on our Accepted for Assessment page:

If your referral has been declined due to not meeting criteria please see our Request for More Information page.

Assessment

We mostly complete our initial assessments by video call (Upstream). Please let us know whether you would prefer your appointment to be face-to-face or via video call, and we will do our best to accommodate.

For more information on appointments, please see our waiting times page.
