Humber Adult Autism Diagnosis Service (HAADS)

Waiting for an assessment

Waiting for an assessment

If you feel you need support while you are waiting for your assessment, please see the following:

HAADS have developed a resource pack to support your wellbeing whilst you are waiting for your assessment. This pack includes information about what to expect at the assessment, signposting to other useful services, sensory techniques and self-care tips.

Workplace and education adjustments

If you are waiting for a diagnostic assessment and you feel that you would benefit from reasonable adjustments at your place of work or study, you could discuss this with your employer or educator, as they may be able to assist you without needing a diagnosis. You could also show them your referral acceptance letter for HAADS.

Mental Health and Wellbeing

If you are struggling to keep yourself safe please contact your GP.

You can also call 111 and choose the mental health option. You’ll be connected to the Mental Health Hub to speak to one of our team of Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWPs).

These are specially trained advisers who work in mental health and are supported by Mental Health Nurses (MHNs).

If you have harmed yourself severely or taken an overdose attend the A&E service nearest to you or call 999.

You can self-refer to Let’s Talk which a free, confidential service offering Talking Therapies.

Adult Social Care

If you have significant difficulties managing day-to-day tasks, then you may be eligible for a Social Care Assessment. This assessment is needs led and does not require a diagnosis of autism. Adult Social Care also assess and look at the needs of carers. Please see the Resources page.

Matthew’s Hub Peer Mentoring

Peer mentoring at Matthews Hub offers a unique opportunity to talk to other autistic people about life on the autistic spectrum in their workshops or weekly social session.

Mentoring is offered for pre and post diagnostic assessment.

Sessions are delivered by their team of autistic peer mentors who have experience of working with other autistic adults and young people.

Sessions for pre and post assessment aim to guide the mentee through the autism assessment process and offer guidance and insight on Autism diagnosis.

If you are interested in booking a mentoring session, email the team below or ring 01482 221028.
