Case Studies

Chloe

I joined HYAG because I wanted to make a difference to young people’s lives; especially those who are suffering behind closed doors and HYAG has given me this opportunity. A personal benefit I have gained is meeting and engaging with a group of wonderful, kind and welcoming team which has really boosted my confidence and self-esteem”

Casey

Hiya, my name is Casey. I am 18, and I spend nearly 85% of my life volunteering! So, I joined the HYAG at 17 while still under Core CAHMS. During that time, I felt like my entire life was collapsing around me, and no matter how hard I tried, nobody was listening to me. For years, I felt like my voice had been silenced, so when I joined the HYAG, I had very little hope that that would change. But to my surprise, things changed A LOT!

In the last few months, I have learnt that my voice, my story and my opinions do matter and that they deserve to be heard.  In such a short space of time, I have been able to meet like-minded people, talk to mental health students at Hull Uni about my own experiences within mental health services, help support the making of the HYAG website pages, and learn more about mental health, the available services in my local area and the types of volunteering available. I can honestly say joining the Humber Youth Action Group has given me a reason to use my pain and turn it into purpose.

Katie

“I wanted to use my experiences of accessing and receiving support from NHS services to improve them for others. I have a passion for creating social change and thought that the group, which I was signposted to by my CAMHS worker, would be a great way of doing this whilst meeting new people. My favourite experience has to be talking at the website launch event last October. I had the opportunity to share a small part of my story with around 100 NHS staff and explain why the website was so important to me. It was a moment I never would have imagined myself doing a few years ago when I first started struggling with anxiety and something I only had the chance to do because of my involvement in the group.”

“Hi I’m Flick and I help support the Humber Youth Action Group. The best part about my job is helping you focus on your passion and work with our services to make a difference. I am here to support you throughout your time with group. My passions include cats, the colour pink and eating nice food. I like the outdoors too.”
